The Veterans Tribute Flight is available for formation flyovers of Veterans events such as funerals, anthem ceremonies, government functions etc. The flyovers are done for free as long as we have the weather requirements , planes and pilots for the event. Our goal is to honor our country by supporting our vets or showing respect for the flag that our veterans have sacrificed so much to defend. We are located at Bartow Airport (KBOW) in Central Florida.
We are also known as the Slow Low Ugly Guys (SLUGS in short form) This is because we do not intend to be the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels. We simply want to provide a solemn flyover for you or your veterans event, usually at the end of Taps, or the National Anthem.
We fly an ex US Air Force T-41A ,(which is the most basic and boring trainer the military has ever thought of at the last minute) a Cessna 150 painted to memorialize the US Navy Stearman trainer used in the 30's and 40's, a Thatcher CX4 painted to honor the American Volunteer Group /Flying Tigers/US Army 23rd Fighter Group as well as a Pazmany PL-1A painted in ROCAF colors.. All of our airplanes have smoke systems.
We will travel to reasonable areas in Central Florida to include Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims and Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
We guarantee that we will try our hardest to put at least two airplanes over your event on time. We have a ground agent that goes to your event with a hand held radio to help facilitate the flyover. The problem is that airplanes break and weather is not always predictable. We also have a pilot shortage, so please give us as much lead time as possible. Ideally, for funeral ceremonies, we work very hard to provide three planes to provide the "missing man" formation.
We do this because we love to fly, and want the flying to be meaningful to others.
We will take donations, but they are not required and will not be mentioned in any correspondence with you, our "customers".
This flyover was requested by the family of a veteran at the Winter Haven American Legion Post 8. You will hear the "clicking" of the rifles being prepared for the Three Round Volley. You next hear the volley of seven rifles fired three times, followed by "Taps" and the flyover. In the case of a funeral, the family chooses the smoke pattern and the service of the aircraft to lead.
